Esplanade Terrace (with the Studio Theatre as back-up)

$15 plus Esplanade S/C

Tickets available at the Esplanade and Tixx Central

The tradition of Gypsy jazz on the terrace continues as Alberta favourite Karl Roth returns to JazzFest.

With that deep, effortless voice and smooth easy paced violin, Karl has a way of making everything he plays sound like an afternoon on the beach, or in the back yard with your feet up, or on a terrace overlooking a beautiful city with a lazy river winding by, which is exactly where you'll be enjoying Karl at JazzFest.

For over 30 years, Karl has been bringing his music to Calgary and Western Canada. Karl's performance at the Basement in Saskatoon a few years ago was recorded by the CBC and is now available on CBC Radio 2's Concerts on Demand web site.

With a repertoire that includes such favourites as “Ain't Misbehavin”, “Mellow Tone”, “Honeysuckle Rose” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street”, this will be an afternoon to just revel in the beauty of classic jazz played and sung by a veteran of the idiom.

Karl will be joined by Dave Hamilton on guitar who has been accompanying Karl for over 20 years, and Neil Bentley on bass.

Bring an umbrella or a parasol if you’d like a little shade. The Esplanade Studio Theatre serves as a back-up.
