One of our favorite JazzFest performers is back. Internationally acclaimed musician Michael Kaeshammer has toured the world showcasing his talents as a singer, songwriter, pianist and producer. A spell binding artist, Kaeshammer's performances and recordings are intimate and inviting affairs, whether in a small club, large theatre or on home stereo.
After studying classical piano for seven years in his German hometown Offenburg, 13 year old Kaeshammer discovered boogie-woogie and stride piano as played by Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis, and Pete Johnson. Within three years he was playing jazz & boogie-woogie in clubs, concerts and festivals all over Germany and other surrounding parts of Europe. He attracted attention almost immediately after the family moved to the West Coast of Canada, performing at jazz & blues festivals across the country during the summer of 1996.
Michael Kaeshammer's recording career now spans 22 years and 12 albums. His last record, 2016's critically acclaimed No Filter, was nominated for a 2018 JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, his eighth nomination and second award.
He has also earned multiple Western Canadian Music Award nominations, winning as both Musician of the Year and Entertainer of the Year and, in 2017, for Jazz Artist of the Year for No Filter.
His new album, Something New, is a new musical adventure. Produced by Michael himself it features 10 original songs about love, life, travel and politics. Recorded at the historic Esplanade Studios in the heart of New Orleans' Treme district,Kaeshammer along with an array of world renowned artists, create an eclectic sonic ride.
It is easy to distinguish great music upon first listen, regardless of genre labels and titles. Kaeshammer's passion for writing, performing and producing exceptional music is abundantly clear. Flavours of jazz, boogie-woogie and blues combined with passion and meticulous detail, Michael Kaeshammer is unafraid of crossing genre boundaries and uses his many influences to take the listener along on a memorable journey.
Joining Michael will be Devon Henderson on bass and Roger Travassos on drums.
