The Medicine Hat JazzFest has always had its ear to the ground for the up and coming. Here's one to watch!

Trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, Rachel Therrien is considered one of the most promising jazz musicians in the Québec music scene. Winner of the 2015 TD Grand Prize Jazz Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, she has shared stages in clubs, concerts and TV shows all around North and South America and the Caribbean with many world-class musicians.

Therrien holds a bachelor's degree in jazz performance from The University of Montreal, a degree in arts management and a certificate from Instituto Supérior de Arte, in Havana - Cuba.

Her quintet, with Simon Page on bass, Charles Trudel on Piano, Alain Bourgeois on drums and Benjamin Deschamps on sax, has released two albums, On Track and Home Inspiration. Since the release of the second album in 2014, she has toured across North America, appearing in a number of clubs and at a variety of Festivals. She will soon be releasing her new afro-colombian inspired jazz album, Pensamiento, that was recorded in Bogota, Colombia, as well as starting the production of a third album with her Montreal Quintet. Rachel will also continue to host the Montreal Jazz Composers Series, an event that she founded in 2013 to contribute to Montreal's jazz community.
